LR 2.3 64-bit on MAC hangs.....in deveolpment

Folks,

LR2.2 rocks with no issue....in all modules. I upgraded to 2.3 and now when I am in develop module and I am doing a graduated filter it allows me to set it up and then just hangs and I get the rainbow ball for more then 2' minutes....I then have to force quit LR. I have tried it numerous times and it happens all the time. I haven't left it for more then two hours before I force quit. Anyone else seen this or might recommend what it could be? I will file a bug with Adobe and already have a support ticket open to confirm but I haven't gotten a response yet.

Sandrino, Welcome.

That's just the opposite of the hoped for experience. Many folks had those troubles in 2.2 which were cured with 2.3.

I'm a Windows guy, so I'll yield the floor to the Mac folks. Did want to take a second and welcome you.

Brad Thanks for the welcome.

So here is what the problem was in a nutshell ---- my wife's MAC account was last used with LR 1.x and maintain a LR1.x catalog file (lightroomcatalog.Ircat) BUT when I upgraded LR from 1.3 to 2.2 and then to 2.3 it was all done in MY account and all the catalog files were upgraded for my account but not my wife's. It seems that LR 2.3 didn't like that. Go figure....LR 2.2 had no issues what so ever.

As it might help others I will tell you some more details. (BTW, I worked with Adobe on this) by following solutions 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and sort of 1' from http://www.adobe.com/go/kb4'4145 I was able to get resolution so LR 2.3 will not hang when in develop mode and using graduated filters.

So any ways I tired 4), 5), 6), 7), 8) and still nothing. So when I read step 1') I already had another account on my MAC (wife's) and decided to use that account instead of creating a new account. I have used that account (my wife's) with LR1.x in the past for just a sample show and tell and the catalog file created then contained info for about 34 pictures.

Anyways when I tired running LR in my wife's account today LR prompted me to either upgrade my LR 1.x catalog file to LR 2.3 or to create a new one. I just upgraded the existing LR 1.x catalog file on my wife's account and Graduated Filter worked for that account. I then Logged off and went to my account and launched LR 2.3 and tried graduated filters and guess what it worked!!! ;-)

So it would seem that when I upgraded from LR 1.X to LR 2.2 in my account it did not matter if I had a 1.x catalog files on the system or for that matter any catalogs files in any other account on my system BUT when I upgraded my account from LR2.2 to LR 2.3 the LR code cares which version of catalog files are on the systems in all accounts. I don't know if that is a feature or an not ;-) but none the less check all accounts on your systems and make sure any .Ircat files are upgraded to that latest release.

Sandrino, thanks for taking the time to share. It may definitely be a help to someone else down the road. Glad you're all sorted out.

Just thinking about all the possible system/software configurations that a multiplatform software vendor has to test these days makes my head spin. How many flavors of Mac and Windows, CPUs, drives, gadgets, widgets, adapters, cameras?

I reported this same issue to Adobe and they are aware of the problem. Seems like we may have to wait a while before it is actually resolved.
