Does on have to wait until December 16th to get it?
Yes, it appears that we have to wait until the 16th. There are no "buttons" to push to download the update.

Oooh, just in time for me to take my 5D MkII to Switzerland on the 2'th. Fingers crossed that it arrives on time and with no gotchas

LOL on the 16th date............idiot me is looking all around the site trying to find the download button....frustrated, I finally actually read all of teh announcement and notice the 16th date.........and then remember it's only the 12th.....D'uh.

I'm my own worst enemy sometimes.

We will have to wait longer. Take a look at the site- the update has been removed:evil:

A real pain! I've got a bunch of files from our Lumix LX3 sitting on a hard drive just waiting.....

I have just downloaded LR 2.2 It is actually available now. It seems to have a bit more zip than 2.1, at least on my PC.

Seems good so far!!

Downloaded this morning - jumped out of bed the minute I remembered it was 2.2 Day. Haven't had a lot of time to play as yet, but this seems like a workable piece of software.

Unfortunately this weekend my computer died and I am now working out of the laptop, and it has a different graphics card and a teensy library. So it's not a fair comparison. However, I have used this computer to try to get some work done and it used to slow to a crawl.

This looks great! Development adjustment brushes seem zippy. They work as advertised.

It seems there are issues with integration with Cs3, and that was unlooked for. I don't know how that will impact me.

I won't be forced to buy software and if Lr doesn't work with Cs3 I will have to decide between the two. I'm a few thousands of dollars into Ps, and only a few versions into Lr.

Which issues Katherine?

There is a discussion on the user to user group about using 2.2 with Cs3 being problematic due to 2.2 using a Adobe Raw 5.2 and Cs3 using 4.6. I have seen a number of statements, including Jeff Schewe who is his usual forceful but informative self.

I am unsure whether my delicate manipulations in Lr will make it to Ps. *confused*

Ah ok, thanks Katherine, I know the one you mean.

As far as I'm aware, a dialog is popping up asking whether to send the raw data or let LR render it, correct? You'd only expect to be appearing for the cameras that are new in 5.2. Everything up to that point should be fully compatible with ACR 4.6.

End result:

If you're using a camera new to 5.2, press the Render using Lightroom button. Open Anyway won't do anything, because it can't.

If you're using a camera that was supported in 4.6, you should be fine to press the Open Anyway button. Lightroom will pass CS3 the raw data and settings, which it should process correctly. That may change in the future if new functionality is added which 4.6 can't process, but in the case of 2.2, you should be fine.

I'll post back if that's incorrect, but that's the last official info I heard.

Good news

Thanks Victoria - this is a relief. It seemed to me from the discussion that Lr is now based on a 5.2 RAW rendering engine and Ps3 is not able to deal with the subtle differences in a Lr processed file - which was processed using 5.2.

Not being a programmer, I have little understanding of the dark underside of these things .. but when various authorities are stridently asking why people expect backward compatibility when asked if they now are having to upgrade Ps in order to use it with Lr 2.2, one begins to wonder if they aren't caught in a spiral of one upgrade demands another.

Your reassurance is welcome. Thanks again.

I know what you mean Katherine, that thread became a load of waffle!!

Obviously there will be backwards compatibility issues in the future if they continue to add new features to LR's Develop module (and ACR), but it's likely to be the same scenario as in the past - that the existing functions will still be compatible, but that new features won't be.

Even at that point in time, the 'Render using Lightroom' will ensure complete backwards compatibility, as that simply creates a Tiff or PSD that any version can open and work with.

In the meantime

It is great to finally use the adjustment brushes as they are supposed to be used! I no longer have to envy you guys with UberMacs! Everything seems to work as designed on this laptop - mind you with an ATI onboard graphics facility and only 2 Gb or RAM. It crawled to a stop in version 2.1. Wouldn't let go of the mouse - all the ugly little things that we have been complaining about.

My computer died last week (but I was backed up) and I will be totally reconstructing my libraries in this version. Hopefully that will help too. Keywording shortcuts will be my friends.
