LR 2.2- Gradient Filter Performance- Intermittent

I upgraded to LR 2.2 shortly after its release. I had previously seen and experienced the reported performance issues with local editing tools in prior versions. In recent editing using the local editing tools the performance seems much improved, especially the Brush tool. However, now when using the Gradient Tool I occasionally get the unending hour glass when applying a gradient. The problem seems to appear most often if I happen to start the gradient outside the boundaries of the image. Once the hour glass appears LR locks up and eventually is shown as not responding. The problem does not appear to be specific to any image. Other times, the gradient if applied successfully and may be edited.

I am using Windows XP on a dual core Dell Latitude 63' laptop. I have tried restarting LR and rebooting the laptop, neither of which appear to have any effect.

Has anyone else seen similar problems? I searched the forums, but can find no similar reports.

Sorry that it's a problem that brings you to us.
There's been a certain amount of performance related weirdness reported/associated with the local develop adjustments in 2.2. Perhaps what you're seeing is part of that.

I am aware Adobe claims to have fixed many bugs in the local editing tools. I have not yet seen/heard comments regarding the effectiveness of the bug fixes. I had used the gradient tool and other local editing tools in the earlier V2 releases. I had encountered the greatest problems with the Brush tool. I will do some further searches for V2.2 issues.
