Back in LR 1.4 when you would export a DNG file "Edit in CS3" the file would export as a tiff into CS3. Lightroom would also show the new tiff file next to the original DNG file. Once closing the edited tiff file in CS3 all the changes made in CS would be saved and show up on the tiff file in LR. When LR 2.' was released this featured no longer worked and I thought it was one of the "bugs". I just updated to 2.1 and read that this bug was corrected....but it still does not work?? When I chose "edit in CS3, my DNG files show up in CS as a DNG file and I do not get a tiff copy of the file in LR??

My LR External Editing Preferences are set to:
File format - tiff
Color Space - ProPhoto
Bit Depth - 16
Resolution - 24'
Compression - ZIP

Any idea what gives??

Right now I have to export the DNG file to CS3, convert it to a tiff, edit and save as - they go back into LR and reimport the tiff file. This just seem like a hugh step backwards.

Michael is this 2.1RC or the new release version of 2.1 out today?

What happens is the DNG is now opened in PS as a DNG and when you close it (with changes) it gets saved back to LR as a PSD. You can "save as" as a TIFF if you want. Of course I have my edit as PSD, I will check with tiff in a minute.

Works as expected with TIFF set as preference as well for me.

So...

Works as expected with TIFF set as preference as well for me.

Can I clarify a few things?
(I am using the new 2.1 Official release from late last evening, not the beta.)

- Is LR supposed to create a virtual copy of the file next to the original when I export to CS3? Currently I am not getting the copy of the original like I did in LR 1.4.

- When I save the file that was exported to be worked into CS3 and save it, is this file supposed to show up in LR as a copy at some point or do I need to import into LR the new version?

- Lastly, when you said you checked with a Tiff and it "Works as expected", what is that? Meaning that you are getting a tiff copy of the file in LR that when closed in CS and saved, the edits are showing up in the tiff LR copy?

Thanks
Michael
.....and I'll update my system info shortly

No VC is created. It is not like 1.4, the copy is not created/shown in LR until it is saved back from PS

It automatically shows alongside the original

Yes, it depends on the preference setting. I use PSDa but as you specified TIFFs, I checked that option as well.
Thanks

Hope that is more clear.

I rebooted my computer this morning and now everything is work just as you described.....so I'm good to go! Thanks :)

Another thing to check in such cases: Adobe wrote themselves that an empty Recycle Bin does help put Lightroom up to speed...

what about this???

The one thing that I still question is if my DNG files are only exporting to CS3 as a DNG file when choosing the "edit in CS" option, why in the world do I have the option in my export preferences to choose TIFF as an export option when editing in CS????? Are we now unable to export to CS as a TIFF?? when choosing the Edit in CS option?? Why would be then still have the export option of choosing tiff as the export option to edit??

Michael

To do the old method, also set up PSCSx as a secondary, tertiary (whatever) editor as well and you will get the old, send to PSCS at TIFF/PSD style dialog and handoff as another option, separately from the direct handoff now capable.

They don't open as DNG, they just retain the dng moniker from the original file. If you opened a CR2 or a NEF it would saw CR2 or NEF, exactly the same way as if you opened the file directly in Camera Raw.

Tiff or Psd

Hello,
I would like to know why you use Tiff or Psd when you export to Cs3? Which one is better than the other one?

Missing file in CS3

I Have a little different problem when exporting to CS3 from Lightroom. In my case when i select edit in CS3...CS3 opens up without the image. This only seems to be happening since updating to 2.1 last night. Thanks

Image not showing up in CS3

My problem is a little different...Since updating last night to v2.1, nothing shows up in CS3 using the edit in selection in Lightroom. CS3 opens but there's no image. This worked fine before the 2.1 upgrade. Thanks

Dave welcome, hopefull we can get you sorted !!
