Lr 1.41 slowdown

I recently upgraded to Lr 1.41 and experienced dramatic slow down on my Xp 2 that was unexpected and ruined a major event project. I need to get some ideas how to fix this before the next event. Specifically: I occasionally photograph sports, parades, reunions and deliver the photos on the spot. I have used Lr on many of these events with satisfactory results. I use this one year old eMachine computer only for this purpose and just recently upgraded to Lr 1.41 from Lr 1.2. I make 15 image 13x19 contact sheets for customer selection and print them on an Epson 22''. With this event, the print spooling took over 3 hours to send 1' pages to the printer with a total file size of 2.5 gb. I don't remember if the file size was greater than usual but I wouldn't be surprised. After Lr reported 21 percent complete it became unresponsive but kept on slowly spooling until the printer finally started. I have 2 gb memory installed. Does anyone have any suggestions?
