LR 1.4.1 upgrade - metadata (I think)

Pls forgive me in advance -- been reading here for a few months and have been slowly learning, or so I thought.

Just upgraded to LR 1.4.1 tonight (and ACR 4.4.1). In looking through a few galleries, images that I had previously edited (pre 1.4.1) in the Develop module momentarily look the same in the Library Module loupe view (and then Develop module), and then sharpness just simply vanishes back to what looks like the original, if not worse -- I've got backups of the RAW files but haven't imported to LR until I know for sure what I've done wrong (or if I'm missing something basic)

I did do a command-S on all images (as suggested by Adobe for compatibility with ACR 4.4.1) to save meta data. I work on RAW files (i.e. with XMP).

Images previously edited in LR develop module appear to retain exposure, white balance, HSL edits done, but sharpness is apparently just gone.

Again, apologies if I'm missing something basic here, I searched the forums for a bit and came up empty. Do I need to go back and edit these things?

Thanks and Cheers, Sean

Are you viewing the image at a 1:1 ratio? Sharpening and noise reduction will only show at 1:1.

Are the galleries you speak of slideshows or exported PDF's?

If so, you must render 1:1 previews first.

Apologies for long turn around, busy times...

Yes, this issue was, and is, apparent at 1:1, no slideshow, no pdfs. I've played with it a bit more tonight... the issue seems to take care of itself after I move from library to develop modules and then back to library, all at 1:1. Again, I'm relatively new, so I'm unsure, didn't think this was a preview issue. This catalog is small (<5''), but LR seems to be getting a little slower in rendering over time (tho since the 1.4.1 upgrade almost everything else seems a bit faster, such as jumping back to grid view).

Looks like I'll be able to live with it no probs, just need to figure out for myself what happens when upgrading, particularly ACR and how that relates to metadata... I realize there's already tons of info out there on that, just need to find time to take it all in (and time to shoot more!)...

Cheers, Sean

In that case, you can force 1:1 previews to build by selecting the images in Grid mode and choosing Library menu > Previews > Render 1:1 Previews.

But now back to the problem I posted about here, sharpening in Library module is now back to where I had left it on shots edited prior to LR 1.4.1/ACR4.4.1 update, both at 1:1 as well as fit or fill, however, in Develop module, sharpening is not there (1:1 or fit or fill) even though it's showing in the history...

There's some strange ju-ju going on here that I can't figure out?

So what happened when you rendered 1:1 previews Sean?

And do the settings show correctly but not the previews?

Sean,

Quoting VB from another forum:

The pipeline is diesigned to work this way.

Library views are assumed to be relatively unchanging. Once 1:1 previews are created (which include the Detail corrections), they are downsampled for smaller Library views.

Develop views are assumed to be constantly changing, and due to pipeline speed issues, Detail corrections are rendered only at 1:1.

That's why the Library differs from the Develop in Fit and Fill.

That being said, it doesn't explain why your 1:1's are different in the two modules. Can you provide a little more detail? (oops pun not intended, but I will leave it in :) )

Thanks Victoria and Brad - prior to the LR 1.4.1/ACR4.4.1 update, previews and 1:1 looked the same in both modules, now it's changed since the update (twice if you count the phantom Adobe Updater issue). I'll have to explain further details in a day or two, tax season just finished here in Canada and I'm now playing catch up on "real work".

Cheers, Sean

Someone else said that their previews were re-rendered after one of the recent upgrades too, so it may be that the processing behind the scenes changed slightly, so Lightroom forced a re-render to show it correctly. If they're different between the two modules, possibly you're viewing a cached version somewhere.... not quite sure on that one.
