LR 1.3 and beta2 won't start

For the second time in a couple of days, LR 1.3 and beta2 no longer start. Tried reinstall/repair/uninstall but always get: "ERROR 142': Could not open key UNKNOWN\.aglib\Adobelightroom.Aglib\ShellNew" This key is in my registry under \HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.

The first time, I did a full restore of my system, which brought back LR. This time I need a better solution.

aglib? That sounds like an early beta catalog. Did you have any of the beta's before version 1 on your machine?

Version 2 is the only beta that's been installed here.

I deleted two registry keys for nonexistent Lightroom paths, which appears to have sorted things. Scary stuff.

Posted too soon, perhaps. I can start LR 1.3.1 and 2 beta now, but when I try to install 1.4.1, I get the same error message: ERROR 142': Could not open key UNKNOWN\.aglib\Adobelightroom.Aglib\ShellNew.

And what happens if you deleted that registry key again (having backed it up, of course!)

Used Windows Installer Clean Up utility to remove 1.3.1 and 2.' beta, which left about 97 registry entries for LR, all of which I deleted, and LR 1.4.1 installed. What a relief.
