Whenever working the developer mode with 1.3.1, LR sort of "freezes" Some symptoms include:

1) cursor disappears, I can see it highlighting things but I can't see where it is. It works fine once I put it out of the LR window (task bar)

2) Lightroom sort of freezes up. All buttons in developer mode stops responding, but the general LR software is still running, can go on to menu and quit, but library refused to write any chnages before the 'freeze'

3) #1 and #2 combined together, nothing happens...

I tried optimizing the database and nothing. The files are all .NEF files from D2X, D2H and D7'... all three camera files have the same problem.

It happens during Developer mode, no such reason why it is like that, seems random at no specific. I was editing finely, until it refuses to take more orders... :(

Yip,
I had a number of locking problems that turned out to be related to the video card I was using and in particular the nvidia tray applet. Once I disabled the tray applet (stopped it from comming up on boot up and running) LR settled down. Just a thought....

I tried disabling nvidia tray, all those nvidia startup items via windows services and system registry. Still freezes up like before.

I still haven't found a way that would exactly replicate the cause of the freeze. It seems totally random when I click and drag things around.

BTW, I have a 66''GT card on the 6.14.11.6218 drivers.

If you leave it, does it eventually unfreeze itself?

If you can narrow down the trigger, we might be able to find a solution.

In the meantime you could try moving the preferences file onto your desktop, and the same with all presets, and try running afresh for a while and see if it still freezes. I've seen some interesting bugs from corrupted presets and preferences files.

Food for thought ......

I spent a week cursing LR back in the early days, and it turned out a I had a hardrive going bad. I try to keep catalogs and photos on different drives to free up a little i/o bandwidth. The problem showed up in LR before any other programs had symptoms.

I currently have a couple of USB 2.' drives that insist on powering down, at some unpredictable intervals, and I haven't yet figured out how to reconfigure them so they don't.

No, shouldn't be hard drive problem because 1.2 works just fine. It's just after upgrading to 1.3 and 1.3.1 the problem starts occuring. I tried rolling back to 1.2 and it worked just fine again...

So does that mean I have to stick to 1.2 and wait for 1.4 (if it comes out)?? :(
