Lost Folders

Hi guys - newbie poster - I did a search first couldnt see any repeats of this question.

I have my LR databases setup in a year by year configuration - so I have a database for each year.

Have upgraded to LR 2 yesterday - I have now coverted all the years from 2''1 - 2''8
However 2''4 ... lost all my folders.
All the pics are there but under the folders tab - there is nothing !
I have attempted to export the 2''4 database - to no avail.


Help ?

I would rather not lose all the changes made and have to redo all the adjustments made.
All other years are fine and all were converted the same way.
I have attached a pic.

PS - Forgot to mention - Cant do a syncronise on this database - as I cant select any folders ..... sheesh ... arggghhh ..... grump !

... am now frustrated.

So, you still have the old 1.x catalog file available?

It's not clear from the screen shot. All the other 2''1-2''8 parent folders have the appropriate subfolders, but 2''4 does not?

Are the 2''4 original image files still located in the folder tree, where you expect to find them on the hard drive?

Yes I still have the original 1.x catalog.
All the other folders are still in the correct folder structure.
And the 2''4 original images are still in the correct spot on the hard drive.

Weird thing is - I copied them to a new folder "copied" so I still have the original everything.
Then did a reimport through a new catalog interface of LR 2 ... it got about half of them in the right folder structure then lost the rest.

They, the photos, show up in the catalog under "All Photgraphs" and I can get to each folder by a right click and go to folder in library - unfortunately the actual folder does not show up - all the photos in the folder do but not the folder in the folder structure.
SO I still cannot select over half the folders as they cannot be seen.

This morning I re launched and optimised the catalog - and lost all the folders again !

This is very frustrating ... but I hold on to hope as I really love this program.

Any help would be fantastaic.

Are your original files raws?

If so, I think you could probably use LR 1.4.1 to write out the XMP sidecars on all of those screwy 2''4 files. Then with LR2.' 'remove' the 2''4 files from the catalog, and then reimport the 2''4 tree into LR2. The XMPs should preserve the bulk of your adjustments and metadata. You'd lose history steps, VCs, pick flags, collection membership and stacks.

I'd really like to see a second opinion tho' before you go off and do this. It's what I'd try, but I don't want you to take any risks with your images on just my say so.

Nice idea Brad - but little old me has gone and converted all his raw files to dng.

I like dng - easy as raw to work with save space etc etc .... and all the xmp stuff saved to raw is saved to it instead of carrying a side car.
But it may have stuffed me up this time out.

Still not sure about LR 2 though - with the re import losing over half the folder structure ?

DNGs will work too, using LR 1.4, just select all the problem files, and hit Ctrl-s to write out all the metadata. Then try to reimport into LR2.

Might be worth doing incrementally, on just a couple of files to do a feasibiltiy test.
