Lost Files at JPEG OVERWRITE

I'm using version 1.3. Last week a edit about 4'' jpgs images, changed colors, contrast, etc...., and export them in the same folder with the same name, using the OVERWRITE option. After a few minutes, when the "process bar" had finished the job, the Lightroom show an error, export fail. And for my surprise, in all thumbnails of the 4'' images showed the "?" symbol (can't locate the original file) I minimize the Lightroom and go to the folder in the system to see what happened, and there's any image in to the original folder!!!!! They disappeared!!!! I don't have backup, and can't find those pictures. How can these occur? The images should be somewhere? Maybe a Temp file? Does any one know what to do?

When you exported to the folder containing the originals and selected overwrite, you overwrote your originals.

When Lightroom wrote the first byte into the exported file, the operating system eliminated the original file. Then Lightroom no longer had the original to work from in order to finish generating the new export.

Hope you had backups...

Hi Mark, first of all than you!!!!!!
I don't have any backup unfortunately. I'm now trying to import the images from my compact flash card with specialized people. If these not work. Do you think that a program like "Undelete plus" could help me to recover these files in my HD. Or these will not work because that's a Lightroom bug? Not a system bug.

It's not a Lightroom bug, it's user error. Though one could make the argument that LR could detect this error and warn you... You might suggest that as a feature request.

Disk recovery tools may work, if you do it soon and stop working on that system until then. You might also be able to recover the previews using Marc Rochkind's LRViewer.

I'd agree, it's probably one that should have a HUGE warning message on!
