Lost add-ins moving between 2 computers

Had the Smugmug export addin and one for watermarking.
I moved from my regular vista laptop to an XP netbook.
They were there, but I needed to fiddle with them and they ultimately didn't work
I then moved back to my regular machine and they're gone.

Since I only moved the catalog back and forth, I would have thought that the addins would have remained connected to the copy of LR on my main machine.

Where were the plugins stored - installing a LR plugin doesn't move it. Had you moved other files around? I usually make a Plugins folder alongside the other LR presets so they're kept together.

I guess that's the question: where are the plugins stored? The only thing move between computers was the catalog.
I never researched that....thought I'd get a fast answer here. [as to where they were stored in Vista and XP).

Plugins were stored wherever you downloaded them to - LR references them at that location. You could probably redownload them. Might be quicker.

Unlike most other programs, add-ins seem to be able to be put wherever you want. I didn't realize that and when moving between operating systems I didn't realize I essentially had to "re-link" to them since the full path name had changed.
Now I know, but who knows if I'll remember next time I move between machines?
It's hardest to remember something you do infrequently.

Normally if you put them in this path on Win 7
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Modules
Lightroom will find them without prompting.

Rikk, at one point early in 2.x, that caused problems with the plug-in manager, because any apps stored there in \Modules\ auto-installed, and then of course refused to un-install when requested by the manager. Since then I've kept my plugin apps in a separate folder.

Do you keep your plugins there now, with no ramifications?

Yes. Never had an issue. I had issues prior when they were they were elsewhere. Since I moved them no issues. (And the Public Beta finds them nicely there too) I believe I have 11 plugins installed currently.

Should I be concerned that I don't currently have a folder named MODULES in that location?

No. That isn't unusual. You can create the folder but be warned as Brad indicated, anything dropped in there tends to get installed automatically and must be uninstalled by first removing it from the Plug-in Manager and then removing the requisite files from the /Modules/ Folder. It has never been an issue for me but be aware.

Personally I create a 'plugins' folder in that location and use that to store the plugins, because then I always know where to find them.
