Older iMac (late 2015), LR V. 6.14. I want to buy, load and start using LR Classic. Can I save one of my old catalogues and load the latest LR version on the same computer? I need time to re-use the left and right panels of the Library Module and don't want to lose them. The photos are on a remote HD. I'm a bit worried that my computer is so old.

You need not worry about your old computer. All you need is your old Lightroom Catalog (and image files) and settings.
You can use this guide to copy your critical data to the new computer:

Once you have installed the latest version of Lightroom Classic you will open that old master catalog with the new Lightroom Classic . It will recognise the version and ask to converter the data in that catalog file into the current database structure and write out a new master catalog with that data.

Which macOS are you running? Be aware that the oldest you can install and run the current version of Lightroom Classic is 13.1 Monterey.

To run the current version of LrC (14.3.1) you need to be running MacOS 13 Ventura (or later). Monterey is no longer supported for the latest LrC version.

I'm running 12.7 Monterey. Also, I wanted to add that my ancient 6.1 Lr doesn't seem fully functional which is why I'm bothering you all in the first place. If I'm getting this right, I can just delete Lr, save the catalogue file and just install the new version and reconnect it with remote photo files? I'm all thumbs on this anymore. Thanks for your indulgence.

I was afraid of that. At least Apple OS 13 will update on my early 2015. Everything I own is so out of date. Oh well, at least I'm on the right side of the ground. Thanks, I'll update forthwith.
