Locating missing files

Hi
I had to move my photos to a new external hard drive. Subsequently Lightroom is not locating the original files as they are now in a different place. Missing photos have the exclamation mark. Usually I would click on this and click locate and then direct Lightroom to the new location for the original file. The problem is when I click on Locate nothing happens. Has anyone experienced this / got any tips? Thanks
