Local adjustment mask does not disappear

I just upgraded to LR 2.1. When using the local adjusment brush I can only see the mask in red, but not the effects of my work. I have to switch the brush off to see what has happened to the picture.

Assuming this is not the intention in LR 2.1, how can I work with this tool like one can see on various movie and LR sites?

Welcome to Lightroom Forums!

Hit the "O" key to display or hide the mask, and Shift-O to change the color of the mask (while it is visible).
