I imported 9'' images with 1:1 PREVIEWS. i AM EDITING IN DEV MODULE. When I go to the next images a box comes up loading. This takes from 5 to 7 sec. I thought with 1:1 previews things would move along with no delay. What am I doing or is this normal. I had to wait when I made standard previews. Need help. Bob Using iMac Lightroom V 2

Hi Bob, I'd say that the wait is for the loading of the full data file, not just a preview. The preview should speed things up if you're zooming into it at 1:1 frequently in Library mode.

Wait time Dev.

Waiting couple of hr. to make 1:1 previews is kind of a waste of time.. It took less time with standard previews. bob

I would agree with you there. As stasber eludes, the 1:1 preview is only useful when you need to save time in the Library Module looking at your images at 1''%. Having them pre-made saves you waiting when navigating from one to another.

However, they are just previews and exist separately from the actual raw data which is what is being referenced when in the Develop Module. The only way to speed this up would be to use a camera that shoots a smaller raw file or use a faster machine to process the images. At some point your iMac, or any other computer for that matter will struggle if it is processing larger files and being asked to do some pretty fancy things with them.

Im all for RAW non destructive processing and don't envy the engineers job of making things run smoothly while camera manufacturers tout larger files and the consumer is faced with the decisions of upgrading a camera or a computer or eating.
