When I'm in Library mode I'm getting the two messages come up when I view different images.
"Loading from Preview" and "Rendering: Larger Preview...."
How can I get the images to default to Loading from Preview as this option takes a fraction of the time to open / view the image?
There may be a lot more of these questions in the near future because although I've had LR for some time it's only now that I've started to use it to its full potential.

Don't think you can.

My understanding is that when it says "Rendering larger preview", it's because it doesn't have the preview already stored in the LR cache. Once it's rendered it, it will store it in the cache, and then next time you view the image, you'll receive the "loading from preview" message since it's simply loading it from the cache.

You can configure LR to build the previews when you first import the image, although the downside is that your import will take longer.

Basically, you'll have to accept that at some point, the preview has to be rendered, although you do have some control over when that happens.

Andy,

You can either

  • [li]Render 1:1 Previews upon import, then the rendering of previews right after the import takes longer[/li]
[li]Render Standard Previews upon import, and at a later stage (e.g. before going to sleep) chose Library/Previews/Render 1:1 Previews[/li]
Please not that the 1:1 Previews will take up quite some more space in your preview cache.

In Case you were rendering Minimal Previews upon Import (which is default afaik), chosing Standard Previews might already help.

You are doing very well Beat!!! - By the way which part of Switzerland are you in? I visited your country many times, mostly around Zurich, when I had an association with the now defunct Gretag. I had the third digital min-lab in the world, it printed one image at a time and was an export plug-in to Photoshop version 2 or 3!!! I had many good times there usually in July/August timing my visit for 1st August and the fireworks!!

Hi Geoff,

I'm living in a suburb of Zurich (15 mins from the city), and of course, Gretag was once a well known name around here (good enough for me to buy an i1Display 2 :) ). At least X-Rite Europe now resides in the exact same location in Regensdorf.

Unfortunately it's been over 2' years since I've visited your country, but I then enjoyed it very much. I remember standing on Franz Joseph Glacier and looking down into the sea ....

July/August is good to come here, but don't come now, the weather is lousy and there is no snow yet :icon_frown: .

Have a good day!

LOL !!!
Which suburb are you in?? Do you make a living from photography?

I'm living in Geroldswil (West of the city, but Google will show you ...).

No, I'm just a enthusiastic amateur, like to travel a lot and shoot mainly when traveling. In 2.5 weeks I'm leaving for Antarctica :) :) .

I'm freelancing as an IT consultant, primarily on the mainframe side in document management.

Ooh lucky you!! I'm sure you will have a wonderful experience. Make sure you post us a link to your images in the Lounge!!
Mind you this conversation is good too!!
I see where you are, very handy to Regensdorf!!

Yes I will, once I've got them sorted out.

I enjoy this conversation, but maybe it should be moved over to the lounge, so other people don't get distracted (or annoyed) from the subject here ;)

Now I'm ready for bed ...

Have a good day, Geoff
