Links to images broken

Hi,

I'm in the process of changing computers at work, and transfered all my data from the hard drive to an external drive. All the images in LR are unavailable (highlighted in red,) and I haven't been able to restore the links by replacing files in their original location.

Is the solution to restoring my 15,''' images back to Lr in preferences. I'm new to this forum, joining in a panic, so I'm just beginning to read posts and it seems I should've set-up something in preferences to avoid this catastrophe.

Ok, first things first, breathe.......

Don't panic, no great disaster. Give us a few details and we'll point you back in the right direction.

1. What LR version?
2. What does your folders panel look like - long list of folders or a tidy hierarchy? And if it's a long list of folders, vaguely how many?

I have LR 1.4.1, and the folder list is long, about 12'.

Ok, you have a couple of options...

1. Put the files back where they were, tidy it up into an easy hierarchy, and then move them again - and you'll only have the parent folder to relink.

or

2. Right click on each folder in turn, choosing Find Missing Folder (or some wording along those lines), and point to the new location on the external drive, and repeat for each of the 12' odd folders.
