'Previous' 'Index' and 'Next'... the 'Index' is not making sense to many users. Too techy for an artistic world. I would love to be able to change the link names. This should not be too hard, but I have yet to find an EASY way of doing it.

It is a whole folder that is generated, which you can name. Call the folder, the browser will open the Index. Easy-peasy.

Don

Can you show us an example of what you'd like to rename? Do you mean the labels themselves?

Victoria,

I know what Galyn means. When a Web Gallery is created, many templates are the kind "Thumbs->Click->Popup Bigger Image" . To navigate back and forward, text says "previous - index - next". Index closes the popup and goes back to the thumbnails.
OK, I am not working in an English speaking country; it is confusing for many clients that get lost trying to decipher what "Index" really means. I would be glad also to have an easy way to modify the labels, *without touching the code*...

I can appreciate that point Clicio, even the translation between differing English language variations can be difficult to interpret. And definitely without having to "code".

Okay, you are not talking about the name of the files in the generated WebSite biu the Buttons on the Template that move one around.

Sorry I did not catch that at first. Short of someone doing this in the template that generates the files for the Website this can't be done for any of the current Galleries. In other words you have to go under the hood.

Bit of you ask Matthew of Turninggate Galleries, he could probably set a specific Gallery up for you with the wording you prefer or an editable Gallery for this. He could tell you better, though.

I'll say here and now that I haven't even taken a first look at the coding for LR's web galleries, but the thought has just crossed my mind... surely a Find & Replace for the words Index, Previous, Next etc would do the job?

Not if you don't want the index.html file renamed.

It probably isn't such a big deal. You just have to know which file to open and where to look. Matthew, Sean or John Beardsworth (is he on board here?) could probably point the way, fine.

My copy of LR is not available right now, because I'm on an ailing Laptop or I'd look, myself.

Don

Ah, yeah, of course! You'd have to make sure it was a case sensitive find and replace in that case.

Investigating these web galleries further is on my to do list for the winter, but it just keeps getting longer!

Don,

That is not a big problem; I can find it easily and anyone with a minimum knowledge of html code can do it in minutes; but the point here is, what about many users that need to use the Web module and are not interested in html coding?
Should be easy to make the labeling editable on the right panels.
When I upload a web gallery so my client can make his/her choice, all the gallery is in Portuguese, except...
The labels!

Then make a request to those making Galleries, like Matthew or a suggestion in the Feature Requests place.

:)

That sounds a good idea, I have no knowledge or inclination (at the moment) to delve into HTML.

I hate to break it to Clicio, but Lightroom is merely following standard gallery nomenclature. It would be far from the first program to use Index to go back to the thumbnail view. And the other thing is that simply pressing Index would reveal it's meaning immediately.
Given the choice between having someone learn something and dumbing it down, I'd pick the learning every time. Too much dumbing down as it is.

As to changing the Code, you'll need to extract it from the pacakge. Right (or Control) click on the Lightroom 1.2 package and "Show Package Contents". The Contents folder will show. Got to Contents/Plugins/Web.agmodule and "show Package contents" again on Web.agmodule. Now go to Contents/Resources/galleries/jardine_pro

The page that creates the HTML is transformer.xslt. Be warned, it is an XSLT file and not a straight HTML file. The Index link is referenced many times in the code and all instances would require changing (but not all instances of changing the text 'index' as it's used for many other things).

Done!
:p
Thanks for reminding me, Don; it's late here, I think I should go to bed...
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

Sean,

I know, I know... I understand it's dumb for you, being born speaking English!
But...
A Web Gallery with all text in another language (Portuguese, or Greek or Kazak...) but the labels is not professional, that's how I feel.
As I said before, should be not difficult to make it editable.
There is no translation to Portuguese in the near future, so...
I think it is a valid request for us.
Regards,

Sean, while I understand your point, I can also see the issue with all other elements are in a local language but "Index" is in English. Doesn't make much sense not to be, at least, in a native language, right?

I'm not arguing that point Ian, in fact I think that the code needs to be made into blocks so that anyone can build a web gallery for inclusion in Lightroom. That would solve many of these issues. Clicio's point was about something that is standard in English. Personally I prefer to have arrows and a house picture for navigation. It doesn't require a language.

The internal code in the galleries is more than learnable, but it's not beneficial unless you are creating galleries. Otherwise commission someone with the skills, to create one for you. Matthew (and Joe from lightroomgalleries.com) have perfected this and I believe should be in a position to accept paid work for things like this. 'The worker deserves his wage'. While it's great having all this free stuff and free help, sometimes a little pay for something that makes life easier in the long run is well worth it.

Sean, thanks!
This is a very simple, intelligent and elegant solution.
Icons, and not words.
Any language, timeless.
Good thinking!

Okay, I just thought his argument was that the text wasn't in a local language like everything else on the page.

Agreed.
