limit the catalog mb

what's about these 2 features


1) limit the catalog(preview database standard preview,full preview) in mb or gb like limito to 5''mb or 1gb


2) the possibility to don't compress the preview data , i think lightroom uses a compress engine to "zip" thumbs , standard preview , full preview


these 2 feature should meet, cater to all users

for example , for a laptop is great to limit & compress the preview data

for a new or not new desktop is great to have a big & uncompressed preview data to speed up the all workflow

Good ideas Giovanni.

At least half of the photos in my catalog will not be looked at again so I don't need to take up preview space with them. That would currently save me 1Gb of space on the drive and around 4Gb of space on my multiple backups.

As for compressing the previews, I seem to remember they are really multiple JPEGs in one file so are naturally compressed. If they were written at 1''% quality the preview file sizes would be larger but may take less time to unpack.

yes but a unziped , uncompressed preview could be great for a desktop with a lot of freespace
today the hardisk are huge & fast , and a huge hd doesn't cost a lot

are u talking about -->catalog setting -->preview quality -->HIGH???

i tried to open preview wit high quality i find no difference between the medium or low
i think the high value means that when u develop your photos , u will work with high quality preview
