lightroom will not start

I recently tried to open a corrupt catalog... ever since this happened i'm unable to open any catalog or to simply start Lightroom at all. I click on the icon on my computer (i use a mac) and it acts like it's open, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I've tried opening new catalogs and the same thing happens. I've tried restarting my computer and it it does the same thing.

Any help would be appreciated so much, I'm definitely freaking out just a bit as I use Lightroom all the time (including during weddings for quick edits, and as I have one tomorrow I'm terrified that I won't be able to run Lightroom during the wedding to create a slideshow), so any suggestions would be wonderful! What happened exactly? How did the catalog get corrupted.
My guess is that R is trying to open a locked catalog. Check the Catalog folder, probably in Pictures>Lightroom and see if there is a .lock file. If there is delete it - with LR closed of course. If there is also a journal file DO NOT delete that.

And if that doesn't do the trick, try holding down Opt while starting LR to allow you to choose a different catalog or start a new one.
