Lightroom running slowly today

I am running Lightroom Classic v10.2 on an iMac with Catalina 10.15.7. Everything was fine but today Lightroom is running really slowly. I have checked that I haven't got lots of other progs open but still it runs slowly. AFAIK the only thing I did yesterday was to setup iCloud Backup for my iPad and iPhone and certain Mac apps. But that didn't include Pictures which is where my Lightroom Catalog is located. So to my logic that shouldn't have affected Lightroom.
Any ideas or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Also, check if there's a massive sync going on in the background (for iCloud) that's using a lot of resources.

I totally agree with Hal btw, always a best first-step!

MacOS comes with an app called ‘Activity Monitor’. It is located in the Utilities folder of your Application folder. This app shows you which processes take a lot of processor time, and lots of other useful information.
