Lightroom quits after 1 second

I use Lightroom 2.2 daily on my main desktop computer but I am trying to use Lightroom 1.1 that is on my laptop for a presentation I have to give.
I may have imported a corrupt file or something because Lightroom keeps quitting, staying onscreen for literally 1 second.
I have deleted the Preferences, to no avail.

How on earth can I keep Lightroom open so that I can actually troubleshoot??

My presentation is tomorrow....of course!

Are you copying files from LR 2.2 to LR 1.1 ? and if so how ?
Is there a reason you haven't upgraded to LR 2 on the laptop ?
LR is at version 2.5 at the moment.

You could consider upgrading the 1.1 to 1.41 as well. Review your EULA and see if your version of 2.X is legal on your laptop.

I don't normally use Lightroom on my laptop...hence no upgrade.

I am not uploading from Lightroom 2.....I am actually uploading from a disc inserted into my laptop.

I know that the problem is ONE corrupted file....my problem is...How do I get Lightroom to stay open so that I can remove this file?

I really don't need to upgrade for what I am using it for. I only have 5' images in there.

Hold down CTRL (CMD on Mac-I can't tell from your signature which OS your are using for sure on which machine)while you click on the Icon to launch LR. It will give you the option to change the catalog that is opening or create a new catalog. Will it let you create a new catalog? If so, import your images a few at a time and see if a corrupt image becomes evident.

Sorry guys...I am on a mac ( in my haste to post I must have filled out the questionnaire incorrectly! )

It won't let me do anything at all....literally the second Lightroom opens it simply quits again. When I hold down the Command key it is the exact same thing.

I know which file is corrupt....I looked at all of the disc images on my other computer. I just need to get it out of Lightroom.

Claire, can you remove all the catalogs from the Laptop so as when you start LR it will need to create a new one??

Do I go into the Pictures folder and delete everything in the Lightroom catalog?

I went into the Pictures folder on my hard drive and deleted everything in the Lightroom folder.....now I can start again without the corrupted file.

I understand (maybe incorrectly) that LR is trying to open with a catalog. So in your Pictures folder (the default location for LR files) remove all the .lrcat and .lrpreviews files. I guess you could just move them elsewhere as LR will not know where they are when you start LR. It should ask if you want to create a new catalog.

I would still recommend you upgrade to 1.41 - that way you may avoid any problems during your presentation. You are most likely licensed to run version 2 on there as well (v2.5 at present)

Claire. My opinion is that you didn't have to delete all this! My take is that you just had to delete the .lock file. As you deleted all, it was also deleted so it now run.

The .lock file is created when you use Lightroom and is automatically deleted when you close. If something happened making Lightroom close unexpectedly, the .lock file is still there preventing Lightroom to open.

Good point Denis, the problem was solved anyhow.... It may not have been a lock file though.
