Lightroom & PS Developing

I'm new here and this may have already been discussed in the past.
When in the develop mode I right click and hit "edit in Photoshop CS".
When finished with PS process I hit save and return to LIGHTROOM and the original photo is there without the PS copy.
Is there a step I am missing?

I don't know if I'll be of much help, but...
I use Elements so I don't know if it's a different set-up, but I don't think so. After I'm done in elements and I hit save(btw, are you in the regular editor or in the ACR part? Mine goes from LR to the editor) the save-as dialog box comes up-even though I did save, not save-as. I then go through the process of saving the file and it goes back to LR as a tiff with "edit" in the name and my changes are there. Now one of the tricks is that in LR there is a preference, I forget exactly where, that you specify stack with original. Find that and check it. That's pretty much what I know. I just started using this feature recently so I'm no expert at it. But there are plenty of nice experts here that can help more. Some may be on the other side of the world so it may take a little while for them to get to you, day/night, etc., but they will.

Mike, one potential gotcha' to look for. The file returned from PS should be named the same as the source file with the suffix "-edit". But, many of the associated times, such as capture time, modify time, etc. will be different.

Is it possible you're sorting on a 'time-based' parameter, and your edited file is returning well-separated from the original? How many images in the collection/folder you're operating on?

That's the first thing that comes to mind. It does sound like you're doing things correctly.

And, as Ernie says, the auto-stack thing is a help as well. That option appears at the lower left of the "Edit in PS" dialog which appears when you use one of the methods (Ctrl-E, right click image/context menu, or Library Menu > Photo) to select edit in PS.
