Lightroom on 2 computers - photo files stored on external drives

I am getting ready to get a 2nd computer (laptop) and need what are the probs I will run into when I import a set of files to work on in LR and then want to export them back on the same HDD files from where they came?

I know as long as I stay hook to the externals that there is no problem, but if I import and then remove the laptop to work on the files while at a different location and then want to export back to the external HDD files......Will this cause me filing problems????

In the case of using a laptop remotely, I would export a subset catalog to the Laptop and reimport it upon return
