I am currently away from home and my desktop and trying to work with LR on my laptop. I have been unable to access it, because every time I open the program, I get the error message, "lightroom not responding". I have tried restarting the computer as well as updating the latest version of LR yesterday. In addition, I checked for Windows 10 updates today and installed the latest one. None of these things have made a difference. As soon as I open the program and click on a folder or an image, the message pops up and LR needs to be shut down.

My experience with a Dell XPS13 i7 laptop 8Gb ram (SSD-Drive 170Gb used, 70Gb free) is this-

Lightroom-Classic in my laptop is IMO slow to load. ie. I need to wait until all the folders, etc, need to appear fully visible (and not greyed out), and my cursor may show the 'working' cursor at times.
If I so much as click the mouse anywhere on the Lr window before it fully loads, it shows the "Not Responding" message for a time, and then takes even longer to load to completion.

I suspect that a 'large' catalog, large number of files, and 'limited' hard-drive space, may be slowing the initial loading.
So I have learned to just wait, and wait, until all 'looks good'!
I also 'Test Integrity' and Optimize' when I close and Backup the Catalog.

I think you may be right about this as it finally started working. I must have waited long enough to make the initial click! As you suspected, the catalog is large, and the laptop works very slowly! Thank you for helping to clarify.

I'd suggest running Windows Task Manager to see which processes are using resources. There may be a secondary program, like malware checking, that is impacting your start times. I run LRC 9.4 on W10 and don't have those issues.
