When I start Lightroom it defaults to my laptop's C drive and does not show the external drive. I use WD My Book hard drives, one for storing photos and one for backup. Initially I would get a message indicating a problem with the external drive so I ran scans which indicated no problems. I thought my antivirus might be causing a problem so I changed programs from UltraAV to Windows defender. I have tried rebooting the laptop with the external drive connected and also connecting the external drive after starting the laptop. I am not the most computer savvy person so I am out of ideas. I have done some research via Google as well as on this forum but I not sure how to proceed.

I would appreciate help in getting the Lightroom and my external drive talking to each other. What is most frustrating to me, is that I have an order for one of my photos but now I can't access the photo.

Thanks for any help.

Just a guess, but If your computer sees the drive, try importing an image from that drive.

The Folder panel will only show folders that contain imported images.

The Import dialog will show every mounted volume in the source panel and should show every volume in the Destination panel that LrC is able to write to.

Which (Folder panel or Import Dialog) are you having a problem?

Your backup volume should never be a part of your LrC workflow. Why did you mention it?
