Lightroom mising files

I had LR move loose some photos. the pictures are on the pc but missing in LR. My photos were put into a main file called 2''8. When they went missing, i tried to right click on the main and locate the missing file but i got the message that some files were already in LR and it wouldn't let me go forward.

1- LR still doesn't know where the files are so i having direct each the proper file. Problem is i am to do this with a lot of them. is there a way to direct several subfiles in one move? I tried by using the main 2''8 folder buy it says it';s already in LR.


2- i use 2 cameras in LR (my 4'd and my wifes P &S)- so on some of the sub folders, which are arranged by date might have 2 of the same date. Has never been a problem till now. if i select find missing file for 4-2' and my wifes 4-2' file is fine i get the message the file is in LR and it won't let me find the file for LR? any thoughts on how to do this? i'm just trying to preserve the edits that I've already worked on.

3- last issue, for some reason, my file directory has gotten broken in to several larger subgroups with in the 2''8 folder. Then is main 2''8 folder then a subfolder called 2''8 (see below) then another 2''8 subfolder. is this something LR room does for a reason or is it something I inadvertently did?

i have an idea, i looked at my version 1.3 and everything is there. is shows 4587 photos versus 4741 in 2.'.
could i uninstall 2.' completely, then reinstall 2.' so it takes everything from the 1.3 catalog then i could sync to pick up the rest of the photos thus retaining most of my edits? would this work? what do i need to do to completely wipe 2.'?

I'm glad to see you've found your way over here. My head's in a tired fuzz right now, but I'm sure one of the other guys and gals here will be able to make sense of it for you.

So 1.3 has 4587, but 2.' 4741... so 2.' has more pics than 1.3?

And your suggestion of uninstalling/reinstalling is simply to upgrade the 1.3 catalog again? If that's all you need to do, just go to File > Open in 2.' and point to the 1.3 catalog, and it'll have to copy & upgrade in order to open it.

Or have I missed your point entirely in my fuzziness?

yes, 2.' has more photos but everything (or most of it) in my 1.3 is edited and i don't want to loose my edits. I am stilling having trouble getting 2.' to find and accept the 'lost' files.

i think you got the gist of it. Should I delete the old 2.' catalog?
