Can lightroom upload more than one gallery to the web?
Frustration is setting in...works great with one gallery. If I try to upload more than one, its not viewable. I'm using godaddy as my host.
Suggestions? Be gentle...I'm a first timer.

Gary,

Try to avoid posting your thread to multiple locations. Gurus and Moderators monitor the entire board, and you will get a response, regardless of where you post.

In reply to your question, you can set up multiple galleries, yes. There are numerous ways to go about organizing things. You might start by trying my TTG XML Auto Index template. Other options include setting up a gallery using MonoSlideshow or SlideShowPro, or manually managing your galleries.

To get multiple galleries onto your web server, just give them unique export names. The galleries should be exported into their own folders at the location of your choosing.

If all else fails, export the galleries to your desktop, then send them to your hosting service manually by FTP.

If all this sounds like Greek to you, reply here and we'll try to elaborate in greater detail. But check out the gallery templates on my site first; many of them are geared towards setting up multiple galleries on a site and you might find something you can use there, or at least get a better understanding of how to go about exporting your galleries to the web.

Also, please fill in your signature from the "User CP" menu, upper-left, with your system specs and other details. This will allow us to better address your queries.

Cheers,

Thank you for the response...

You site and its offerings look great.

At this time I would like to use LR's features to upload my galleries.

Upload settings:
FTP Server: garybird.........
X Put in new subfolder
full path /new1

I have tried multiple new sub folders but only the first-in shows up.

Gary

To setup LR with your server, do the following:

1. In the Web module, expand the Upload Settings pane.

2. To the right of the text "FTP Settings", there is a drop-list. Click this and select "Edit".

3. In the Configure FTP File Transfer window, input your server address, Username and Password. Enter the Server Path as the destination to which you would like your galleries stored; you might want to use the Browse button for this if you don't know the correct path.

If you're using my TTG XML Auto Index to index your galleries, you should set this path to the location of the auto index files.

When finished, click OK.

4. Check the "Put in Subfolder" option.

5. In the text entry field, input a unique subfolder name for each gallery.

6. At this point, the Full Path section should show the Server Path, plus your unique Subfolder name.

7. Upload!

Cheers,

p.s. - You still need to fill in your signature. ;)

If I create new LR galleries & upload into sub-folders, they will not show up on my main web page. Only galleries not not created with sub folders.
But if I manual type in the url my homepage w/ the subdirectory name...they show up!

http://www.gbirdphoto.com/Web Gallery 3

How do I get sub-directory links from the main page using stock LR?
Gary

If, by "Main Page" you mean http://www.gbirdphoto.com/ then in lightroom instead of using the Contact Name link to request an email use it to point to a subdirectory.

In the Site Info panel change the web or mail link to http://www.gbirdphoto.com/WebGallery3
Note: no spaces in the name. The "3" can be a sequential number depending on how many galleries you have.

I have used this method successfully without installing non stock galleries as are available from TTG however I have not used a gallery as my home page. What you are in essence doing is building a site which Lightroom was not designed to do but can handle in a basic manner.

Currently your homepage is a web gallery created from Lightroom.
the address is: http://www.gbirdphoto.com/
Now, in Lightroom, select that same gallery and in the Site Info panel change the words Contact Info to "Go to next gallery" and change the web or mail link to http://www.gbirdphoto.com/gallery2 and upload it.

Nothing on your homepage will look different but when someone clicks on the link for Go to next gallery it will try to locate gallery 2.

Now you can make gallery 2. Everything can remain the same with the exception of the Subfolder to which you will be uploading. The subfolder must be the same name as the link from the first gallery. In this case it would be "gallery2"
The Contact Info link can either link back to the first gallery (your homepage) or the next gallery if you have more to upload later. That is where the sequential number will come in.
So it will work with 4 or 1' or 2' galleries.
I'll say again, this is not really what LR was designed to do. TTG has sequential galleries (index) available.

an example of 4 individual galleries residing in 4 individual subdirectories:

Gary,

There is no way to index 2' galleries using the stock LR web options. That's one of the reasons I've done the development I've done.

Putting your galleries into sub-directories is the only way to have multiple galleries on your site. You should avoid spaces in your sub-directory names. And, to get to the them, you would need to use a URL like this:

http://www.gbirdphoto.com/subdirectory/

If you want an index page at www.gbirdphoto.com that links to each of your galleries, then you will need to somehow build an album/gallery index page.

I provide two variations on galleries allowing you to do this, TTG XML Auto Index and TTG XML Album Index.

I've tried to make these two templates as easy as possible to use, both for users comfortable with web code and those with little or no experience. If you're not going to use these, and being inexperienced with setting up and maintaining a website, then you might want to consider hiring someone to setup a site for you.

You might also check out the VScroll and HScroll galleries at Sean McCormack's Lightroom-Blog.com, which include some menuing options. You could feasibly build a website from them.

Is there an example of a website w/ multiple galleries and home page......all setup by Lightroom? using the TTG XML auto index?

Is there an example of a website w/ multiple galleries

Yes here
Mathew has shown that the auto index and the Album index can be used with several different types of galleries to suit your purpose. The instructions for each are quite specific about which galleries are currently supported.

and home page......all setup by Lightroom?

You could have your index gallery as a home page if you wish, if all your site is just for images but you would be wise to build a separate homepage which links to the index gallery. That way you could introduce yourself and let people know more about what they are to see on your site.

Check GoDaddy for any basic web templates they offer or perhaps basic building tools to get you homepage setup.

Lightroom is not designed to build sites and was not designed to build more than a single gallery at a time. It is only with 3rd party developers that there is even the ability to have what could be considered a "home" page for the galleries.

The benefit of Mathew's system is you don't have to create a new link on your site each time you upload a gallery.

Is this a complete website? Is there any one using slimbox other than the sample site.
I would like to see a fully operation site only created using LR & TTG XML Auto Index.

Why?

What is it you are trying to establish Gary? Lightroom will not develop a "fully operational" site.
If you have images already in Lightroom perhaps you should try using the TTG Auto Index and slimbox galleries. Play with them, customize them to your tastes. Its all non destructive anyway, whats the harm?
