lightroom from windows to mac

since it is time to upgrade my windows box, I decided to get a mac instead of building new windows machine. As a result, as soon as actually go and buy my new mac pro, I will be in need of the Mac version of lightroom. What I am hopping I will be able to do is simply go back to the Adobe sight, down load the mac version and use my existing install code. Is this possible or am I going to have to play dual boot games so I won't have to buy the software twice.

I really don't want to run windows on a mac it kind of defeats the purpose of switching platforms.

D/load the Mac version and away you go with your existing number.8)

That's the great thing about Lightroom's license - it's not only cross platform, but for those who run one of each, you can also install on a mac and a windows machine at the same time (up to 2 machines, not used simultaneously)

If you have Photoshop, that's another matter - you will have to switch license, although it's usually only the cost of postage and an agreement that you won't use the other version.

Yep... moving from Windows to Mac with my copy of Adobe Design Premium wasn't terribly difficult... a little time consuming but not difficult. Cost me something like $1'.'' for shipping.

Lightroom, on the other hand, was instant as I could just install the Mac version and use my existing serial number.

What about the actual catalog... is that also OS-independent?

Let's say I have all my images, the LR catalog-file and all previews stored on an external USB-harddisk, connected to my Windows PC. If I now get a Mac also, can I just unplug the USB-disk, connect it to the Mac, and use LR on the Mac with my existing catalog without any problems?

[/quote]IIRC, Macs do not read and write to drives that are formatted using some of the file systems common to Windows. If your EHD is formatted in one of the File Systems that both Windows and Macs can read and write to, there is no issue.

OK. Any idea what kind of filesystems works on both Mac and Windows? Anything special needed?

However, there are Mac utilities that allow you to write to NTFS drives.
