Hello,

I have had a hard time finding a solution to this one.

My issue is that NO version of lightroom will open on my new iMac computer. I have installed and uninstalled 1.4.1 and 2 at least 15 times. However the issues remains; when trying to open LR it just seems to freeze. I thought maybe it needed some time to open. So I left the computer for about an hr and it was still struggling to open. For some reason i think that it may have to do with the fact that there may be a lightroom file somewhere that I am not sure of that is messing with everything. When unistalling I make sure to delete the following as well:

Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom Catalog.lrcat
Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom Catalog.lrcat-journal
Pictures/Lightroom/Lightroom Catalog.lrcat.lock

Library/App Support/Adobe/Lightroom
Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom2.plist

I have been trying to figure out why neither versions will open on my new computer for several days now and I cannot seem to figure this one out. Have not been able to find much online regarding this issue.

ANY help is GREATLY appreciated as I am becoming desperate to get this running.

Hi Ryan, welcome to the forum!

Initial thought - try creating another user account, and install it there. If it works, you could try copying the files to your existing user. No idea WHY it seems to work, but it's got to be worth a shot!

Hi Victoria. Thanks for the suggestion. I tried that, however it still continues to freeze when i click to open it. It is quite frustrating. Hopefully somebody out there might have some insight on this....

I think I'd do a Spotlight search for everything with Lightroom in its name, delete it, clear the trash, and then try again. So has it ever worked on this machine?

i have tried the spotlight suggestion every time i have uninstalled.

Version 1.4.1 had worked on this machine. However, the second time i tried to use it the issue of freezing began. I then decided to try to install version 2 (trial from the adobe website). It had worked once (first time) but then would not open again the next day.

What happens if you hold down Opt while opening, and let it start a fresh catalog?

do you suggest i contact Adobe Directly? or would the people at Apple be able to help me with this issue?? it seems as though i cannot find anything on the internet about this issue..

Is it just LR that you are having the problem with?

Same Issue - But Just Started

I have had the same issue just start. It happened after two events that could be key factors. The first was we moved. I was very careful about moving the external hard drives, where the images are kept, but not sure if it had any affect to cause the issue.
The other event was a variety of updates from Apple 2 days ago.
I suspect more than anything that this is the culprit.

Would love to hear if there is a solution.

What is funny, is that not only do both versions of LR not work, but even Aperture is not opening. They all freeze in the start up window. All other apps are fine so far.

Hey Andrew,

Yes LR is the only program that is giving me issues. I have actually just noticed today that it works when I dont have my external hard drive plugged into the computer. However, the majority of my photos are on the external HD and i was planning on using this HD for my time machine backups.

One Thing you should know: -said external =HD is also used for backing up time machine on my macbook pro. Perhaps this has something to do with the issue...??

any suggestions?

Try this,

With the ext HD's unplugged start LR and create a new catalogue and import one image into it and keep it on the local drive. In the catalogue preferences make sure that this new catalogue is the one that will open automatically.
Now restart LR and make sure it opens the new catalogue automatically. Now add your ext HD's and see if LR stops. If it doesn't restart LR and see if it then stops. If it does start up ok with the new catalogue then it looks like the old catalogue is corrupt.
Have you been using Time Machine to back the whole Mac up?
