Lightroom folder showing duplicate hard drive

Hi there,

I have been transferring my lightroom catalogue off my internal hardrive on my Imac onto an external hard drive.

For some reason, in the folders sidebar, my one drive is being shown as 2 volumes.

Any ideas why it's doing this?

Cathy, welcome to the forums. It doesn't look like your profile info is correct, you say IMac, but your profile says Windows?

The reason I ask, is that the two volumes display was a bug in an older Lr version, what version are you using? Your profile says 2.4, but ....

I am using a Mac, not Windows, I just set up my profile in a hurry and didn't update all the fields! I'm using Lightroom 2.4...

Oh, and a new development today. After spending ages moving my images to the external hard drive and then reattaching them to the lightroom files, today all the connections are lost. Every single file and folder is displaying '?' again, as if the files have been moved or renamed. But I haven't done anything...

Well no...the drive is attached and visible on the computer, it's the Lightrooom folders that don't seem to be reading from it.

The bug with earlier versions, is it supposedly fixed now?

Do you know how to do a screenshot? That'll help us understand exactly what you're seeing, and how to fix it. I wouldn't panic - it should be easily sorted out.

I can confirm this bug on Lightroom 2.4/WinXP SP3

Just exported catalog with one photo to another computer and added one more photo to it. Both photos a located in subfolders of d:\photos\
btw, i didnt change drive letters

Out of curiosity, what happens if you right click on the folder (either one) in your test and add a parent folder. Does it appear on both of the Data (D:) drives or just one?

And if you try to set both folders in the duplicate drives to the same parent folder?

What do you mean "set"? If I drag'n'drop one subfolder from one DATA (D:) to the other, then I get "A folder already exists at this location" warning.

Right click on each and set a parent folder. Set both of the folders on the duplicate drives to an identically named parent folder. Will Lightroom allow this to happen?

If you mean 'Update folder location' then it doesn't help

Dafeed, yes, that sounds like something I've seen before, where the path to the folder appears differently in the database for each folder. The easiest way to fix it, from memory, is to rename those 2 folders with LR closed, reopen LR and relink them to the new folder names, and that should hopefully put them both back under the same drive, and then you can rename the folders back. It's just a way of forcing LR to lose the files and rewrite those paths.

Thank you, Victoria! It really helped, even the develop history remained untouched.
Hope this bug will be fixed in the next version of LR, because it won't be that easy to update locations of hundred(s) of folders ;-)

Did you ever use 2.'? I think it's carried over from a bug that was introduced in 2.' and fixed in 2.1 - but the fix didn't fix any catalogs that were already affected. Great to hear it's fixed it anyway!

If someone's just hundreds of folders, adding a 'parent' folder first and then renaming the parent folder usually does the trick.

I had version 2.3 before and updated to v2.4 today. These two photos were also taken recently so I doubt this is the old bug.

Was any of the catalog active in 2.'? If so, it was the originals that had the wrong root path. If not, might be worth reporting it.
