Hi all,
I just converted from a PC to a Mac, Imac 24 3ghz, and am currently going through the learning curve... (who said Macs were intuitive, it seems as ugly as learning windows was!).

My LR catalog and pictures are currently on an external drive. I want to move them to the default picture folder for LR and CS3 but need the folder name that Mac uses (e.g., it was "My Pictures" on the PC).

Mac - [systemdrive]/Users/[your username]/Photos/Lightroom/ Lightroom
Catalog.lrcat
Thanks. That's what I needed. I noticed on my system it's "pictures" not "photos" but anyways.

I assume it will squawk when I copy in my catalog from the external but will work OK?

You will need to get LR to open that specific catalog:

1) just double-click on the *.lrcat catalog file, -OR -
2) hold down OPT (Mac) / CTRL (Win) while opening LR, this will open a 'Choose Catalog' dialog, navigate to the moved catalog and open.

It's likely that LR will be confused about the location of the image files, by displaying '?' mark icons on the files or folders. Right-click on the highest folder level in your catalog displaying a '?' and choose 'locate missing folders'. Again, navigate to the new location.

Hi Brad,
Thanks for your help. By the time you replied the deed had been done!

I just dragged the external catalog onto the new one that the LR install had created on the Mac, but, instead of squawking about a file already existing it copied the catalog one level lower in the directory so I ended up with
pictures/lightroom/lightroom/etc. Not a big problem. I trashed everything and recopied my external catalog. When I launched LR it asked me if I wanted to use the newly created catalog, which I did, and it now works fine.

LR on this Mac is significantly faster than it was on my PC so I am pleased.
