Lightroom does not open from the dock or out of applications (directly). I only have the lightroom bar on the top of the screen. It allows me manually to select a catalog that I want to open but then I get the message "an error occured when attempting to change modules and a blank lightroom opens.

Sometimes I am able to create a new catalog but as soon as I close LR and want to open it again the next day or an hour later everything is gone/cannot open LR again.

I tried to reinstall LR. No change.

I am using Lightroom 1.3.1 on a Mac Book Pro 1'.4.11

Hope somebody can help!!!

My friend had exactly this issue on his Mac. The solution turned out to be to download LR direct from Adobe rather than from the supplied CD.

Give that a whirl and see if that resolves the problem.

Ok, let's go through this one thing at a time then Birgit.

First, delete the preferences file. That'll be at ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Lightroom Preferences.plist (where ~ is your user folder).

Hold down Opt while opening LR. That will bring up a dialog which asks you which catalog to open. Start a new one, somewhere safe that you'll be able to find it again.

What happens?

It did not ask me to pick a catalog. It started from the very beginning - introducing the lightroom short cuts. So far I was able to close that catalog and also reopen it again! I hope that continues! THANK YOU!! But I guess my old ones are gone. (one opens, the other ones don't).

Ooooh, I hope that continues working!

It may be possible to rescue your old catalogs, although it definitely sounds like there's some major corruption going on there. You could try going to File > Import from Catalog and attempting to import that data into your nice fresh new catalog. It should, in theory, transfer over without taking the corrupted bits with it, so it might be worth a shot. If that doesn't work, then yes, those catalogs are toast. Hope you've got regular backups you can open instead.

Well, they joy did not last long. LR does not work again. My latest update is now that lightroom and another application (bookmaker by mypublisher.com) affect each other. The best thing to do I figured out is to take either one of the computer to make the other one work. The bookmaker support has not been very helpful so far.
So I can use lightroom only on my second computer right now because I also need to work with bookmaker to make books.

Or run your LR as a PC version in emulation and the other on the Mac side. No conflict!

Or vice versa, depending on which takes most processing power. Nice idea Don!

Well I was figuring, if OP already had Parallels and the LR would be no extra cost for the PC download. A PC version of the Book SW may cost , if available.

I did the bug report to Adobe.

Don, did I understand you correct to use 2 different computers - one for LR, one for the book software?

Thanks,

No, one computer, two different OSes, using a virtual emulation of the second OS via such as Parallels Desktop for Mac.
