Went to open Lightroom the other day from the dock on my Macbook Pro, it got as far as the splash display and wouldn't progress any further. No display of the software at all beyond the splash, which will stay up as long as you want it to, it never seems to move beyond that. I've also tried skipping the dock and opening from the application folder and I get the same thing. I've tried opening the backup catalog from before there were problems, and it doesn't show up either. There have been no other problems, and all other software seems to work fine. Any suggestions??

Thanks,
Brian

Few things to try Brian (and welcome to the forum!)...

1. Reboot - fixes some bizarre problems!

2. Ditch the preferences file. You'll find it in ~/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.lightroom.plist. Either move it elsewhere (so you can put it back) or just delete it. Try reopening LR.

3. If that doesn't work, hold down Opt while opening LR and see if it'll allow you to start a new catalog.

4. Remove all custom presets (~/Library/Application Data/Adobe/Lightroom folder) and try opening again. Sometime corrupted presets can cause trouble.

5. Redownload the latest version (1.3.1) in case your app has become corrupted.

6. If that doesn't work, we'll rack our brains further!

I somehow (fingers crossed) seemed to have fixed it. I seleted an image I wanted to import and then right clicked "open with" option to Lightroom (lightroom didn't even show up as an initial option, I had to "choose another application" to use Lightroom). It then started to open like normal with my import options and then went to the back up alert, "you have selected to performa a back up once a week...... blah blah blah. I choose to go ahead, and everything went back to normal. It was just so strange not to see anything on either screen at all, it almost seemed like the app was completely missing.

I'll keep you posted if there's anything else going on, otherwise, thanks for the speedy response.

Brian
