Lightroom creating duplicate drive on import

Hi,

I know that this has been brought up before, but I've done a search and can't find a definitive answer.

I am keeping all my images on an external drive. When I import images into LR instead of importing them into my existing file structure, it duplicates the drive at the bottom of the list and places the imges there.

I know this is a documented bug, but we've had two updates now (2.2 & 2.3) and it's not been fixed yet

Is there a work around or fix for this problem. I've seen the one about setting Photoshop as the secondary editor. I've done that and it doesn't work. I've also seen the one about just copying files using explorer and then use 'syncronise folder' in LR, but that's hardly satisfactory.

Your signature still says LR 1.3.1, but I take it this is 2.x?

Assuming 2.3, I'll guess that you've got different root folders showing in the duplicate drives in Lightroom. For example, in one copy you've got Users/Phil/Pictures/2''8, and in the other you've got just Pictures/2''9.

If so, if you right-click on Pictures in the second version and choose "Add Parent Folder" until both versions have the same root, does the problem go away? (You might need to restart Lightroom at this point to make that happen.)

Sorry, yes I'm running v2.3 (sig corrected!) on XP. The picture is importing to the correct folder, but the drive is being exactly duplicated in the pane. See screenshot.

Adding parent folder just added a parent folder, i.e. 'My Pictures'.

Well, I never noticed that!! It's something to work on. I'll let you know if I resolve it. Thanks for the pointer.

Hi Mark

Well there were two paths to the network drive. For some reason one path was showing 'users' and the other 'Users'. I couldn't figure out how to change the capitalisation, so I just selected the other path and the files now import without without duplication.
