Lightroom crashes when using Wacom Intous 4 Tablet

I have an Intous4 small tablet. When ever I start using my tablet, it causes Lightroom to crash. I have tracked the problem to the Windows Services control panel. If I disable the Tablet Service Wacom then Lightroom runs appropriately. Once the service has been restarted, Lightroom refuses to start.

Any suggestions would help!

Make sure you get the latest drivers from Wacom. Remove your current driver BEFORE installing the new one. If you already have the latest but upgraded at some point then de-install and re-install the drivers.

I appreciate your quick reply. What would be the best way to un-install a driver? I went to device manager and the tablet was not even there. I have un-installed the tablet itself, and then re-installed to no avail. When I disable Tablet Service Wacom, Lightroom works.

Sorry I am at a complete loss. I'm just happy I was able to track down what I have found.

Are you running 32 bit or 64 bit Vista? If you are running 64 bit, does the tablet have the right driver. I note from the Watcom support page that there is a ne driver dataed Jan21, 2'1' for Vista & Win7 32 & 64 bit.

I encountered the exact same problem. I recently moved to Windows 7 and I just could not open LR after I connected the Wacom Intuous 4 .. I really thought that my LR was being affected by the new Windows system which I just could not understand. I also added 4GB of RAM and a new processor and M/board.
The Wacom works fine on my Laptop which is Vista based. I have uninstalled the Wacom from my PC but I am really scared to connect it again in case I cannot work with LR. It seems also to have had some affect on the external hard drive I use for LR files. I cannot get it to work properly in terms of speed since I encountered the Wacom problem.

Hi Noel, welcome to the forum!

Some of the drivers work quite happily, so it might just be a bit of trial and error to find out which one.

[/quote]As I noted earlier in this thread, there is a driver just released, dated Jan 21. I would recommend making sure you are using the latest driver for your OS and more importantly one to match your CPU architecture.

Thanks to all for taking the time to reply to my query. I have downloaded the most recent Wacom driver , but I havent connected the tablet yet .. many thanks again for your kind help

It seems the only driver that works correctly for me is the oldest one (Driver 6.1.'-6 (RC) for USB Tablets on Windows Vista & XP (32 & 64 bit)) Everything else causes LR to crash. The one I'm using works correctly, I just lose the functionality of saving my custom settings!

Thanks for reporting back rjsdad, it's useful to know which ones work and which don't. Hopefully they'll fix it so you can update again before too long.
