Hey everyone, I've got a burning question:

Lightroom has been very troublesome for me lately. Ever since I switched to Vista, it has been going nuts! I've tried updating LR, using older versions, tried every version of video drivers (ATI) tried NO video drivers, and things always go down the toilet. I've had 3 catalogues go completely corrupt on me with no provocation. Every single backup I open contains absolutely no data. There is only ONE catalogue file that seems to have my data in it - from december 2''7 - but LR crashes out every time i start with that catalogue. I am becoming incredibly frustrated with this! I can't tell clients I can't get at their proofs because Lightroom ate them - I'll look like an idiot.

Did you changed something else than your OS?... (Hardware)

Lightroom is very efficient at finding memory problems. So try to remove all your memory chips except one and restart. If the problem persist, remove that memory chip and replace with only one other. If all seem good, then you have a bad memory chip.

P.S.: That would be helpful if you fill your signature like others do to tell us your hardware/software details. See the "UserCP" link atop this page...

Hmmm, I could see how 'Lightroom ate the proofs' wouldn't wash with most people!

There definitely sounds like something odd is going on. Denis' memory suggestions are a good move.

Also try deleting your preferences, as that can cause some really odd behaviour.

Other thoughts - I'm wondering why your backups don't contain files. In fact I'm really concerned that your backups don't contain files. Have you checked the folder security permissions? And I seem to remember that LR doesn't like compressed folders too.

Permissions seem fine... I just checked my memory, it's all kosher. None of these corruptions have been preceeded by a major change - or any change at all - in the computer. Security settings are as they should be - LR doesn't seem to mind working for a few weeks, and then all of a sudden if will freak out again.

I'm just starting to hope that none of the 1''+ customers my store has sold Lightroom to in the last few months don't come back with a similar problem!

Well it's good to hear it's sorted. Corrupted preferences are often the source of illogical unexplained bugs!

It would appear this was a toasted preferences file. I have NO idea how that happens.
Nice from you for reporting back! 8)
This really help us know what to suggest to pinpoint problems.
Thanks
