When working with DNG files in LrC is it possible to read metadata from an " XMP sidecar" instead of from within the DNG file?

I( don't believe that LrC has that capability. There may be plugin's that can do it.

If you want to get the info from an XMP into a DNG You could also do this.
  1. find a RAW file that is not in LrC. Take a new one if you must. This should not be a DNG
  2. Take the XMP file with the metadta you want and name it the same as the RAW file but with XMP as the extension
  3. Import this raw file into LrC.
  4. Check to see that is has the data from the XMP file
  5. Select both the dummy image just imported as well as the DNG you care about, with the dummy image being the active (most selected) of the two
  6. Use Sync Metadta and/or Sync Settings (in Library mofule) to copy the metadata from the dummy RAW file to the DNG
Might work.
