Lightroom changes order of photos

When I try to export the contents of a folder, Lightroom changes the order the photos were taken randomly - some photos from the beginning of the take will be scattered around the folder, generally at the end of the folder. This is very noticeable when I try to edit in Photoshop. The numerical name of the individual photo files also changes. I'm running Windows XP 3rd, Photoshop CS3, Lightroom 3 Beta. Any word on how to workaround? I assume it will be fixed in the final version of Lightroom 3. Any word on a release date?

Welcome to Lightroom Forums.

If the filename is changing, that's because you've configured Lightroom to change them. What naming template are you using in the Export dialog?

When you edit in Photoshop, are you using the Edit in Photoshop command from Lightroom, or are you exporting and then opening it in photoshop separately?

Thanks for responding - I use Lightroom to change all the photos in a folder, then export them to a second folder with a different name. I have noticed where it says "Template Name (X of y), and if I click on it I get a number of choices, none of which makes sense to me. (I assume there is a correct one!) I then create a contact sheet using Photoshop, and burn a disc - something I've done twice, but each time the order changes. What is the correct choice under "Templates" in the Export menu? There is no "correct choice". Or rather, it depends what you're trying to accomplish.

When you say "I use Lightroom to change all the photos in a folder", do you mean that you're changing their filenames? Or their sort order?

Can you detail what your filenames are like after import (within Lightroom), and what you're trying to accomplish when you rename on export?

Hey! I just tried changing the Template "Custome Name - sequence." That seems to work. Now I'll try some of the other settinsg and see how they work, but that seems to be the answer. Thanks!
