Lightroom catalog gone - and how to start over

In my move from California to Milwaukee, I have found only an old Lightroom catalog - and all my images on an external drive don't seem to be connected in any way to it.

Sounds like I'm forced to start over.

If so, my images are all in separated folders created on my previous Mac: have them in years, events with years.

I am trying to figure how to start over given this situation.
Your advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Ian.B I will remain calm.
Now here's something interesting, I use Crashplan and see that my Mac in Los Angeles has the Lightroom catalog. I just emailed Crashplan support to find out how I restore this .lrcat to the Mac I use in Milwaukee where I'm living.

That's good news bohdanz! I've logged into the Crashplan website and simply downloaded a file in the past. You only really need the lrcat bit as long as you have the original photos too.
