Lightroom cannot find CS3 for extenal edits

I have been using Lightroom 1.3.1 and Photoshop CS2 external edits. I recently installed Photoshop CS3 and deleted CS2. I now find that I cannot edit in Photoshop using <ctrl>+E. The preferences menu external editing tab says "Adobe Photoshop (not found)". I can find no way to get Lightroom to find Photoshop. Is there a way to get it to search or to set the location?

I have been able to use <ctrl>+<alt>+E to edit in Photoshop CS3.

What OS are you on Dave? Fill in your signature something like mine (in the User CP).
I believe there are issues with this but maybe we can find a solution for you.

I would try removing the LR preferences (shift them somewhere out of the way and rename them) Then restart LR and see if that works.
Sorry I'm on a Mac and have no knowledge of PCs.

I seem to have made an error in posting my initial message. I will try again.

I am having trouble using <ctrl>+E to edit in Photoshop. I had CS2 installed and this worked well. I recently installed CS3 and after a while deleted CS2. Lightroom no longer starts Photoshop and in the Photo menu "edit in photoshop" is grayed out. The preferences, external edit tab shows "Photoshop (not found)". How do I get Lightroom to find photoshop?

I looked for the pref file as suggested but I do not find it.

I don't know where you find the preferences on a PC, on a Mac they are at:
User/library/preferences/com.adobe.Lightroom.plist

When uninstalling CS2 it removes the registry setting that Lightroom uses to determine if Photoshop is installed. So, even if you have another version of Photoshop installed previously, Lightroom can't "see it".

Dave,

Go into the Control Panel and choose Add/Remove Programs. Clicking on the Change/Remove button for CS3 will bring up the install program and give you the option to re-install. This should re-write the registry key that was deleted when you removed CS2.

You may need your original CD and I'm not sure if you'll need to run any CS3 updates again, probably you will.

It's a little easier than going the uninstall/reinstall route.

I was having that problem also

But I resolved the issue by disabling DEP on windows XP.

Now LR and PS CS3 are happy together.

Thanks for the help. I reinstalled Photoshop as you advised. Lightroom now sees Photoshop and <ctrl>+E works fine. I appreciate the effort you made to help me solve this problem. This forum is an excellent place to find experts in Lightroom. I plan to visit often.
