Lightroom and Portfolio

Hi, I'm new to this forum and need help finding a resource that can compare Lightroom and Portfolio. I have many thousands of images that I want to catalog and don't know which program or both I would need.

I have CS3. My main problem is finding specific images. I added digital capture to my photography in 2'''. I've been scanning thousands of analog images and creating thousands on digital images over the last eight years.

I've been filing by "date shot" on my hard drives. Things are now getting out-of-hand as it is becoming increasingly difficult to find anything.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Portfolio is a mature cataloguing program that can help you manage all sorts of assets, not just images but video, sound, text documents. It has no adjustment features. Lightroom can catalogue pictures, not these other file types, and its strong point is adjusting multiple digital images (while Photoshop is more for single images).

You can only really have one place where you control your pictures and add keywords and other metadata. Getting Portfolio and Lightroom to exchange keywords and other metadata is not simple (though can be done). That's probably what you're finding.

It's a members only forum, so there's a simple application process, but they're quite helpful for folks with DAM/metadata/keyword issues, for all sorts of media, not just photo.

Currently, they're developing a comparison spreadsheet addressing exactly your question.
