Hello everyone. I am having trouble with LR2. When I try to edit a picture in photoshop with the lightroom adjustment I keep getting a message that say
" the file could not be edited because adobe photoshop CS3 could not be launched". But when I click on "edit original" it opens it just fine in PSCS3. It does not let me open any adjustment I have done from lightroom but only original files. I was able to edit pictures whith lightroom adjustments when I was using LR1 but not with LR2. Any help would be great. Thanks

retsmijone, Welcome to LR Forums. Numerous bugs have been reported concerning the "Edit in ...." function in LR2, particularly with the more complex choices in PS. Adobe is working on this, and a fix is expected sooner rather than later.

One particular problem mode involves filenames with apostrophes and/or ampersands (') (&) . If that's true in your case, rename the affected files.

Thanks guys. Are you guys having the same problem? Is their a way to find out when that problem has been fixed. It sucks cause I see no need for LR2 if I can't open the lightroom adjustment image in PSCS3.

Try adding PSCS3 as the 'Additional External Editor' as well. (I think there's some sort of warning, that it's already selected as the primary editor, but I forget the details). That should let you use the adjusted copy.

I don' think it allows the Panos or HDR tho'.

I am certain this works ok..........

As a work around, have you tried starting CS3 manually and then use "edit in".

This morning I ran into the same problem as yourself with the same error message but when I started CS3 manually I was able to "edit in" with all adjustments.

I don't get the message but it opens in the orginal DNG file instead of TIF or PSD! Is there a way to fix this?

I added Phostoshop as an additional External editor and it fixed my problem! My Dng file will now open in TIF format!

Hmmm. Mike, first Welcome to LR Forums.

That's interesting, that's the functionality (Opening the DNG directly) that every one else is complaining is broken. One of the promised benefits of LR2 was the ability to go directly to PS without an intervening time/space consuming conversion to TIF/PSD.

Murphy's Law, it's seeming to work for you, and you'd prefer it didn't. :)

Hey Steve. Thanks for you answer but I have already tried that and it still does not work.

How do you add PSCS3 as an 'Additional External Editor' Sorry for not understanding, I just have no idea what that is and how to do it.

Go into the Lightroom>preferences menu and there you will see the External Editing menu which ought to be self explanatory.

Thanks Kiwigeoff for that. Also thanks for everyone helping me. That helped, I can now take my adjusted photos from LR2 into PSCS3. Gosh, that get's me very happy. Thanks again.

There has been lots of discussion about this on the Adobe forums. I was suffering the same problems. Adding Photoshop again as an external editor does work, but it doesn't allow you to edit without creating a copy, and you can't go straight into a panorama or HD merge, so you are losing most of the added integration in LR2.

Various solutions have been tried. In the end I followed the most widely successful, which is to uninstall Photoshop and reinstall it. This worked. During the uninstall I opted to retain my preferences, and it still worked, so apart from occupying the computer for quite a while during the uninstall and the reinstall, then the re-upgrade to version 1'.'.1 (I think), it was pretty straightforward and didn't take too much time.
