Last week I began to experience a problem with Lighroom 64 bit and Photoshop 64 bit programs not loading. With Photoshop I have the 64 bit and 32 bit programs. The 32 bit program will load without a problem. The only thing different that took place on my computer around that same time was a download from Google that I believe may have created the problem. I have a couple of other 64 bit programs and they load without a problem. I have unstalled and reinstalled Lightroom and am actually now in the process of doing this again. I went through my folders to look for anything related to Lightroom to delete it and am now in the process of downloading the program again. Yesterday I took my computer in to Best Buy for the "Geek Squad" to take a look at it and they could not find
any hardware issues and suggested I contact Adobe, which I have done. No reply yet. I am at my wits end with this. Please, any help at all will be most appreciated. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Lighroom 3 times, looked for and deleted hidden files, all to no avail. I am hoping to avoid a restore of my entire disc, which is the Geek Squad's next suggestion.

Help!!!

Hi Mel, welcome to the forum!

You could try the 32-bit version of Lightroom, and see if that loads. That'd at least determine whether it's something simple like a catalog, or a more global OS error. Other than that, before wiping the whole drive, you could try backing up everything and then doing a Windows repair.

Thank you for responding Victoria. I actually loaded the 32 bit version of Lightroom this morning and it works. However, I do have a 64 bit Internet Explorer which works fine and one other small 64 bit program that works with no problems. But Lightroom nor Photoshop 64 bit programs will no longer work. I have been using the Lightroom 64 bit program for over a year now, without any problems. It just makes no sense at all.

I wonder if there's some Windows Update or something that's installed in the background then. Might be worth a look at the update logs.

Finally, I found the issue. I just kept digging until I finally found the error reports that were logged each time Lightroom failed to launch and each time there was a reference to a file for the Intuos4 Wacom Tablet that I recently installed. I uninstalled it and inreinstalled it and everything works beautifully now! What an ordeal, but I will have to say I learned a lot.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions.

Melinda

Wow, I wouldn't have thought of that one. Well done Melinda! And thanks so much for reporting back - we'll remember that one for the future.
