I am unable to get past the welcome screen in Lightroom 64-bit. Photoshop CS4 also will not fire up -- but all other 64-bit programs run fine. I have done a memory diagnosis, and all 8 gigs of RAM appear to be fine. Bridge works.
This started gradually -- occasional fits of "Lightroom needs to close" became over time frequent crashes and now it just won't get past startup --which it will do and then freeze. Any attempt at getting the program to do anything results in a greyed-out screen and the "The program is not responding" message.
Is there something -- a file maybe -- that is common to CS4 and Lightroom that may be corrupt or missing? I have done numerous removal and re-installs, all to no avail.
This was a problem in Vista, and now I am running Windows 7 -- which is running everything else beautifully. The upgrade to 7 did not change a thing. This would lead me to believe I have a hardware problem --- but what? I loaded the latest driver for my video card, again with no effect.
