Lightroom 6 - single license, stand alone program will not open.

Lightroom 6.0 stand alone program.

I purchased this program in April this year as I did not want to have to pay a never-ending monthly charge. It has been working fine on my iMac OS 10.10.5 until yesterday. It now will not open. I have tried resetting the preferences as suggested on a thread on this site but it makes no difference. The initial picture for Lightroom launches but the little Mac wheel goes around and around for ever, while the computer works hard trying to do something!
As I am not very computer savvy I had to have help from Adobe loading the program as I got very confused with Adobe Creative Cloud which is still hanging around on my computer and gets updated regularly. I do not touch this or try to open it - in fact can I delete it?
I believe with this "stand alone" program I cannot do any updates as was also suggested on a thread? Perhaps my OS system is too old?
Any help would gratefully accepted.

You are eligible to update to 6.14 which is that latest and last version.
Download the file from here: Download Photoshop Lightroom and expand the Lightroom 6 section.

Thank you very much. It has worked! So relieved.
Can you please tell me if I can delete the Adobe Creative Cloud? It seem to update and I never use it.
