Lightroom 2 and 2.1 RC are corrupting the preview photos when they are accessed for preview generation and viewing. An example is attached. Any ideas?

what type of image are they RAW or Jpeg?

Hi Razorback, welcome to the forum!

First things first, backup, backup, backup. Files becoming corrupted can have a number of causes, including damaged card reader, faulty RAM, a dying hard drive.... make sure you've got offline backups.

Try checking the files in another program - and try checking a copy that hasn't been near Lightroom. The most likely situation is that the files are already corrupted, but the preview you're seeing initially is the embedded jpeg preview which is in an uncorrupted part of the file. Then Lightroom reads the raw file to create a proper preview, making it look like LR's corrupting the file. I'm not saying it's definitely not LR, but there are a few more likely possibilities to explore as well.
