First of all I would like to say hello, I am new to the forum. I did a google search and ended up here. I started with LR1.1 and have graduated to ver2.5 over the last year or two. I am far from being an expert though.
I have an HP desktop with Windows Visa and it works fine for what I do.

A few months ago I treated myself to a Macbook Pro . Took a little getting used to, but I love it. I have LR2.5 installed there too.
I use my macbook at weekends when we go to our weekend home. This is when i take most of my pictures and download them onto the mac. I edit and delete on the mac and so far have not backed anything up. During the week I just use my PC. I do have a lot of pictures on the pc harddrive backed up to an external HD.

My question is, what is the best workflow for syncing my photos on the mac and pc and sharing the LR catalogues? Does this question make sense? In other words if I make changes to my pictures from my mac, will those changes be seen when I look at them from my pc?

Thank you in advance
Colin

Welcome to Lightroom Forums Colin!

The easiest way for this scenario is to have both your images and catalog on the external drive. The catalog will open the same from both computers. The drawback is that each time you will switch the computer accessing the images, you will have to relink as the Mac will look for images on a drive with a given name while the Windows computer will look for them on a drive letter. So, when you see folders missing after a switch, simply right-click on the top most parent folder and opt to "Update Folder Location". Everything beneath will relink accordingly.

Thus it is suggested that you work with a single top level folder as explained here...

Thanks Denis for your input. I will try your idea. I may have some more questions on the way.
All the best
Colin
