Lightroom 2.4 update - duplicate images and grey boxes

After 2.4 upgrade, some of my folders have duplicate images, some have blank/gray frames between duplicates, and some times sequences are duplicated. They have same file names. I can select a blank and delete it, and seems like no ill effects. But, there are just too many to do manually like this, and I thought I'd check here before continuing to delete extras in this manner. I've not let LR update my catalog yet. Not all folders are infected.

Other issues I have are not being able to re-arrange slides in the filmstrip. I did once, now can't move any slides around (re-order).

Even before the update I had a drive show up as a duplicate, 2 C:'s or 2 D:'s. I have screen shots of this if anyone's interested.

My Catalog is quite large.
Any advice welcome...
