Lightroom 2.4 backups...

Hi All

A curious question has occurred to me that I wanted your take on please.

Lightroom does a regular weekly backup of my catalogue, which is archived off on one of my external drives. Does LR backup the actual RAW files themselves, or just the edits that have been undertaken on those RAW files, or both...?

It just backup the CatalogName.lrcat file and nothing else.

And just to reinforce what Denis is saying, *You* need to take steps to ensure that the raw original files are backed up.

Over that, you can manually backup your presets, templates and plugins...

One of these days, this will all be addressed in Lr version X.x.

FWIW, Matt The Photo Geek has written a plugin to make it easier to back up all the 'extras' that you mention. http://thephotogeek.com/lightroom/config-backup/

FWIW I've previously lodged a feature request to ask the Lightroom team to absorb the functionality from this plugin. It would be much better for this to be embedded in their backup UI rather than tacked on as a plugin. So Brad, I've asked that "addressed in Lr version X.x" become "addressed in Lr version 3.'".

I think Adobe could do that in CS4 too, it would help people an awful lot when moving to another machine....
